Windscreen calibration to ensure safety

Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), such as cruise control and lane assist, integrated into the car’s windscreen, enhance driving safety using advanced sensor technology. For these systems to function properly, their sensors must be calibrated, particularly after the windscreen has been replaced, as only properly calibrated ADAS systems ensure safe operation.

InCar’s skilled technicians ensure that your car’s ADAS systems work accurately and reliably, and that windscreen calibration is performed correctly. Calibration is always carried out at the time of windscreen replacement, and you will receive a calibration certificate for the completed calibration.

Windscreen ADAS systems to support your car

Driver assistance systems, known as ADAS (Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems), rely on sensors located around the car. These sensors gather information about the vehicle’s surroundings, direction, and the driver’s actions. Common systems include cruise control, lane assist, autonomous emergency braking, and blind spot assist.

Modern sensor technology is divided into camera, radar, ultrasound, infrared, and laser systems. Even advanced driver assistance systems are ineffective if the sensors are not properly calibrated. Calibration verifies the accuracy of the sensors by comparing them to a known standard, ensuring that the system produces precise and reliable results.

With the increasing use of ADAS systems, InCar calibrates the ADAS systems on every second car when replacing the windscreen, and up to 7 out of 10 cars in the capital region. These numbers are steadily rising.

Calibration of the ADAS system

Proper calibration of the ADAS system integrated in the windscreen is essential for vehicle safety. An improperly calibrated system can compromise driving safety, so professional calibration is critical.

Only correctly calibrated ADAS systems operate safely. InCar’s expert technicians will ensure that your car’s ADAS systems are calibrated correctly. You can easily book a service for ADAS calibration on our website.

How is calibration done?

The calibration of the ADAS system integrated into the windscreen is performed according to the car manufacturer’s specifications, either through driving (dynamic calibration) or by using calibration equipment in the workshop (static calibration).

InCar’s global cooperation network

InCar’s investment in the development of glass services, both in training and technical capacity, has resulted in the country’s most comprehensive windscreen calibration network. Calibration capabilities are now available at all InCar service locations.

We collaborate with Robert Bosch, Hella-Gutmann, and Saint-Gobain to continue offering expert services to owners of both new and older vehicles. Our technical support network plays a crucial role in solving problems and providing guidance for the most challenging car brands.

The future of ADAS technology

Systems are evolving and new solutions are constantly being developed. Autonomous driving is taking off at different rates in different countries. The “Vision Zero” project, supported by the EU Commission and the German Road Safety Council (DVR), aims to promote traffic and driving safety. The long-term goal is to have zero fatal accidents on European roads by 2050.

In our country, this development is currently reflected, for example, in the fact that a car equipped with adaptive cruise control and lane-keeping assistance can drive a car autonomously without the driver’s involvement at all. However, such driving is limited to a few tens of seconds, after which the driver has to take control of the car again.

In the United States, practical models are further advanced. The classification of autonomous driving is defined by the so-called “Autonomous Driving Classification”. SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers) scale of 0-5. In the US, certain states are at level 4, which means a vehicle that no longer needs a driver at all. The wheel and pedals are still on the car, though. In Europe, we are gradually moving towards a limited level 3.
